To help with this, Homestart’s launching Give Joy|Give Hope. The idea is simple: To help you get an unusual, meaningful gift that supports local businesses while also making an honorary donation that will be used to provide gift cards for families struggling with housing instability.
Give Joy by purchasing a gift card from our curated list of world-class locally-owned businesses based in the Boston area. Many offer online shopping and, unlike with multinational corporations and online retailers, you’ll know that the money you spend is being infused into our local economy, helping small business owners to survive.
Give Hope by donating in your recipient’s honor to give gift cards to neighbors who are in the thick of financial hardship. Housing instability is another face of economic instability, and HomeStart is working with hundreds of households all over the city who struggle each day to afford groceries and medication. ‘Give Hope’ to uplift all our neighbors with the joy and hope that come from holding each other warmly in community.
How It Works:
Purchase a Give Joy gift card and a Give Hope donation. After checkout you’ll receive an automatic confirmation followed by a more stylized Gift email to print or forward to the recipient. This will contain their gift card information and recognition of the donation made in your recipient’s honor. Due to processing time, please allow for 1-2 business days between your purchase and receiving the Gift email.
If you’d like to “Give Hope” as your entire gift you are welcome to, but in the spirit of Give Joy|Give Hope we ask that you not purchase a “Give Joy” gift card without also making a “Give Hope” donation towards gift cards for the families HomeStart serves.
